ELLIOTT TO MISS MILAN GAME
Harvey Elliott will miss the Champions League opener for Liverpool in Group B after he suffered a serious ankle injury during the weekend’s Premier League win over Leeds United. Liverpool will begin their Champions League campaign this season with an home game against Italian Serie A outfit AC Milan.
The Reds will play hosts to Milan at Anfield without the young Elliott who made a bright start to the new Premier League campaign until he was stretchered off during the league game at Leeds United. He was injured after the challenge from Leeds United substitute PascalStruijk. Struijk had come on for the injured Diego Llorente for the hosts in the first half before he was sent off as a result of the incident involving Elliott in the second half. Liverpool had already been leading 2-0 by the time of his exit due to the red card thanks to Mohamed Salah and Fabinho either side of the interval. Senegalese international star Sadio Mane added a latethird goal to make the win a comprehensive one for Liverpool thereby taking their record to three games and one draw in four Premier League matches.
Elliott figured heavily in preseason and the start of the season in the colours of Liverpool after returning to the club from a loan spell at Blackburn Rovers in the summer. He was very impressive during the loan spell at Blackburn Rovers last season. Eliiott started the league games against Burnley (home), Chelsea (home) and Leeds United (away) before the unfortunate incident involving Dutch defender Struijk.
Liverpool and Milan have a win apiece ahead of their latest meeting in the Champions League. The two teams will meet for their third meeting in the history of the competition on Wednesday night.
