50 MILLION LOSS

Liverpool seems to have been through a really sorry financial state of late. The esteemed football club has reportedly experienced an exorbitant 50 million pound loss in 2012-2013.

However, the doomed picture of the financial state doesn’t look much bothersome for the club officials. As per the sources, Liverpool are of the opinion that despite a catastrophic 2012 & 2013, they have started proceeding towards the right commercial direction. Last season only, the club reduced its pending debts by 29 percent to 45.1 million pounds as the revenue rose up by 9 percent to 206.1 million pounds.

The positive financial recovery can be credited to a grand cash inject of 46.8 million pounds by Fenway Sports (owner of Liverpool FC). The lofty cash push enabled the club to clear a stadium debt.

The Reds, who are in the second position at the table after Chelsea, are hopeful to take part in Uefa Champions League the coming season. Liverpool haven’t participated in Europe’s esteemed club competition from 2009-10, yet qualification in the championship would get lucrative revenues for them. With ten league matches to play, the Reds have the opportunity to win on their 1st English championship right since 1990.

“These results display that our financial health is progressing on a positive note as we are going on with the mission of club transformation both off & on the pitch”, remarked Ian Ayre, the Liverpool managing director. “Over the last 4-5 years, our revenue structure has been on rise consistently from nearly 170 million pounds in 2009 to more than 200 million pounds today. The external debt dues have faced a significant reduction as well- getting to lesser to 50 million pounds. With our huge supportive ownership team, we have been able to take up a right measured angle to straighten our financial stability.”

Liverpool’s 5-3 triumph over Stoke City displayed the capabilities that the side of Brendan Rodgers has but at the same time showed some weaknesses in the defence of the squad as a club located in the middle section of the Premier League standings managed to score 3 goals and if it wasn’t for yet another standout performance from Luiz Suarez, the ending result could have been very different.

While there certainly is a need of adding players to the squad, Iago Aspas is being linked with a move away from Liverpool in this transfer window as he has failed to secure a starting place in the lineup of Rodgers and Valencia are keen on signing him as well as Swansea City.

Porto’s midfielder Fernando joins the list of players that are wanted not only by Manchester United and Everton but Liverpool also as they have thrown their hat into the ring displaying interest in signing the 26 years old player.

Rodgers wants to boost the midfield of Liverpool and another player that could be seeing his way into the Premier League club is Napoli’s Gokhan Inler who is even considered to be the successor of Steven Gerrard but considering the influence that Inler has in the team of Napoli, he might be an option just too far-fetched for Liverpool.

According to Sky Italia, Liverpool are nearing the last few stages of signing Udinese’s Emmanuel Agyemang-Badu who is only 23 years old but has already made over 38 appearances for his country Ghana and would be a very costly option for Rodgers to sign.

With Glen Johnson, Jose Enrique and Aly Cissokho having all suffered from injuries in this season, the defence of Liverpool is another zone that can be upgraded with new arrivals and Fenerbahce’s Caner Erkin is the latest name that was added to the list of Brendan Rodgers.

NO REGRETS

Daniel Sturridge doesn’t regret the fact that he went to play for his national side England in the friendly game against Germany in spite of being hampered by a thigh injury.
Sturridge returned from the national duty with a worsened thigh and as a result, the Liverpool boss, Brendan Rodgers, didn’t give him the starting opportunity in the Merseyside derby which was played on Saturday.

Later on, while talking to the reporters, Rodgers even expressed his disappointment over the situation.

But, for Sturridge, the national team comes first and he thinks that it was his duty to go and play for the Three Lions at Wembley.

Talking to the reporters yesterday, Sturridge said, “No matter how your body is feeling like, if the England boss has included you in the squad, you have got to go. It doesn’t matter if you have got a minor injury.”

“I was given a chance by Roy and I feel honoured every time I get to wear that England jersey.”

Sturridge has been one of the stand-out performers for the Reds in the 2013-14 Season and it’s because of his brilliant form that Liverpool is currently placed at the second position in the Premier League points table.

Sturridge has made a total of 14 appearances for Liverpool this season and has found the net 11 times. These numbers are enough to indicate what kind of form he is in at the moment.

When asked about the condition of his thigh currently, Sturridge said, “The pain is still there, but, it’s not as bad as it was a few days back. It’s vital for me not to stop training. I want to start the next game against Hull City.”

Liverpool will take on Hull City at The Kingston Communications Stadium on Monday.

Liverpool managed a stunning 3-1 win over Sunderland during the weekend that lifted them to the second position in the table. After the match, manager Brendan Rodgers praised his strike partnership of Daniel Sturridge and Luis Suarez. Sturridge has been in great form since his £ 12 million move from Chelsea in January.

He scored one goal and set up two others for Suarez, as Liverpool secured three comfortable points. There was a danger of Sunderland being able to stun the opposition after relieving the hugely unpopular Paolo Di Canio off his duties.

This was the first goals from Suarez, who came extremely close to leaving the club in the summer, since last season. He returned to first team action after a long suspension in the 1-0 defeat against Manchester United. There was a lot of questions about how Rodgers would be able to retain the two strikers especially given that Sturridge has flourished in the absence of Suarez. However, Rodgers answered this emphatically by playing the two strikers together in the match against Sunderland and this secured perfect results for the manager.

Rodgers has said that the two players are very different to each other, and hence, they complement perfectly well together. He expects them to become the best strike partnership in England.

“I’m not sure there are two better strikers in the league. There are some wonderful partnerships around, like Wayne Rooney and Robin van Persie, but those two are right up there with the best. They are two different types as well. Sturridge has pace and power while Suarez can shift his body very quickly, which is always tough to defend. Suarez has a remarkable mentality. His determination and focus are amazing and he is like a new signing for the club,” said Rodgers after the match.

Liverpool striker Luis Suarez’ time at Anfield has been blighted by several controversies. He has been banned for more than 15 matches as a result of two separate incidents. It is an astonishing amount of games considering that he has been at the club only since 2011.

However, he has now been linked with a move to Arsenal, who have made an offer of more than £ 40 million for the striker. Instead of rejecting any transfer speculation, Suarez has requested permission for him to speak with Arsenal. Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has recalled of the fans and the club was extremely supportive of him during his bad times.

In the first incident, Suarez was found guilty of racially abusing Manchester United’s Patrice Evra. He was banned for eight matches as a result of it. Despite this, Liverpool fans and players came out in support of the Uruguay striker, who said that the racial abuse was not said with a malicious intent. His latest controversy came at the end of last season when he bit into Chelsea defender Branislav Ivanovic. This was the second such offence of his career, but still Liverpool as a club was extremely supportive of him. He was banned for an even longer period this time around.

“There’s nothing new to report. He’s very much a Liverpool player and over the course of the next couple of weeks we’ve got to get him up to speed. The support he has received from the supporters and the people of the city of Liverpool has been unrivalled. In this period of time he’s missed a lot of games for the club through various reasons. The people have stood by him, like a son and really looked after him,” said Rodgers. Suarez will be absent for the first six Premier league matches because of the ban.

The manager of Liverpool, Brendan Rodgers, has said that he will be looking for some strikers during the upcoming pre season transfer window.

Liverpool’s performance in the ongoing season has been quite decent. The Reds have won 14 out of the 36 matches that they have played in the competition so far. They have been defeated in 9 matches and have shared points in 13. They are currently at no. 7 with 55 points.

In their last match against Everton, the Reds played a goalless draw. That was their 4th draw in the last 5 matches.

Talking to the reporters after the match against Everton, Rodgers said, “We haven’t scored as many goals as we would have liked to in the ongoing season and that’s because our strikers haven’t been at their very best.”

“The match against Everton was our 15th clean sheet in the Premier League this season which suggests that we are doing alright defensively. But, being consistent only in defence is not the way to go. We will have to be consistent both back and upfront.”

“In the transfer market, we will have to look for a couple of players who can solve our striking problems. We have played too many draws in this season and that’s not ideal. From draws, you only get one point. You need to win matches if you want to be in top 4.”

However, Rodgers praised his defenders a lot in that press conference especially Jamie Carragher. The Liverpool manager said, “All the defenders have performed up to the mark in this season, but, Jamie has been the stand out player for us. He has had such a huge influence on this team. He has been fantastic everywhere, in matches, in training sessions, in changing rooms.”

Liverpool have been showing in recent weeks that they can be real contender for the top four positions after they have made several strides up the table. However, the moment of the club has been halted by the 2-2 draw with Manchester City during the weekend.

The Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers was especially disappointed after the match given that they had only 12 min to hold on to the lead, but failed to do so due to a rare mistake from the goalkeeper Pepe Reina. Manchester City had taken the lead in the match through a goal from Edin Dzeko in the 23rd minute.

However, an excellent finish from the former Chelsea striker Daniel Sturridge meant that Liverpool were able to get back on track almost immediately. The 73rd minute goal from the influential midfielder Steven Gerrard looked to have given Liverpool an unlikely three points from the Etihad stadium, which has been a fortress for Manchester City over the last few years. However, it was City who managed to get back into the match almost immediately through a goal from Sergio Aguero from the tightest of angles. Reina came for the ball, but failed to reach in time ahead of the Argentine. Despite being an acute angle, Aguero managed to score and equalise the match.

“It was an outstanding performance coming here, a notoriously difficult place where it is even difficult to score goals. We were brilliant. The only disappointment is that we were outstanding in our work but mistakes have cost us. Aguero’s finish for the second was unbelievable but from our perspective we are bitterly disappointed he was in that situation. It was a mistake, everyone is clear on that, but I can’t fault the players,” said Rodgers, whose team have managed just one win in the last five matches.

MANSFIELD THEN MANCHESTER

Liverpool will be playing against Mansfield Town in the third round of the FA Cup ahead of the trip to Manchester United during the weekend.

Hence, there has been a suggestion that Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers will be resting a number of key players in order to preserve his players ahead of the crucial match. Brendan Rodgers, though, has said that he will be making no major changes to the team because he thinks of the match against Mansfield in the same breath as the match against Manchester United.
Liverpool come on the match on the back of a recent good run of form, which has seen them suffer only one defeat in the last four matches. As a result, they have been able to climb up into the top half of the table after a long time.

Rodgers will be extremely keen to continue this good form. The match against Mansfield is likely to see the debut appearance of the former Chelsea striker Daniel Sturridge, who was signed only a few days ago for £ 12 million. The 23-year-old is lacking match fitness due to more than two months of injury problems, but he is expected to start ahead of Luis Suarez.

“We have prepared exactly the same for Mansfield as we would Manchester United. I don’t think you can under prepare because that’s when it can shoot you in the foot. They are a team that play 4-4-1-1, they’re direct, they have a centre-half that throws it into the box a mile, they’re organised. They sit ninth in the league, four points off a play-off position. Our homework has been complete and full so we don’t underestimate them,” said Rogers. After lot of struggles early in the campaign, the club are currently having 31 points on the board and are just a few behind Arsenal.

RODGERS RULES OUT SIGNINGS

The Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has ruled out the possibility of signing any new players in the January transfer window in order to improve the club’s ailing league form. It has been a very difficult season for Liverpool under the former Swansea manager Rodgers, who has not been able to improve the club any better. In fact, they have regressed under the guidance of the former Chelsea assistant manager. One of the main concerns for Liverpool this season has been the lack of firing cover to the Uruguay striker Luis Suarez. They have brought in only the Roma striker Fabio Borini during the summer transfer window.

There have been suggestions that the club will be dipping into the January transfer window in order to improve the league position of the club. Following the recent 2-1 defeat at the hands of Tottenham, the club has moved to the fourth position in the table, which is a far cry from the days when they used to qualify for the Champions League. However, Rodgers has said that the club are looking towards balancing the books this season. As a result, they will not be making any significant purchases in the January transfer window. One of the main areas to strengthen at Liverpool will be the striker’s position.

“I am not so sure it will be in January to be honest. This year the club wanted to balance the books and see where it was at. There was a big investment in the club and obviously a lot of players went out in the summer and a few came in. We will look to do some business in January to help and support the players here, but that is where we are at as a football club,” said Brendan Rodgers after the Southampton match.

Suarez remains passive about diving accusations

It would be fair to say that Luis Suarez has been at the centre of yet more controversy this week, with countless individuals jumping on his back following an alleged dive in the game against Stoke at the weekend. However, while everyone continues to gossip on his antics, the player claims that he doesn’t care about the situation and says that he is not worried about some of the accusations that are being branded about.

Suarez left Potters boss Tony Pulis fuming in the game on Sunday, after he went down very easily following a challenge from Robert Huth. In fact, the situation was so comical that it could hardly be described as a challenge and this is the reason why so many individuals have leapt to criticise the Uruguayan.

As well as Pulis, a selection of current and past players of the game have hounded on Suarez and called on the FA to impose a ban on the 25-year-old. However, even though he seems to be the number one target of English football at the moment, the player remains defiant and says that all of the criticism doesn’t bother him in the slightest. He said, “Everyone should focus on their own team. Those who want to talk can do so, I am not worried about what they say. Any manager can say what he wants about me but it doesn’t affect me. Let them carry on talking. Meanwhile I will continue to play football and to concern myself with my team and with what I do – and nothing more.”

Following the incident, Brendan Rodgers is probably very happy that the Reds now have a two week break. During that time, Suarez will be representing Uruguay, with the nation set to play two World Cup qualifiers against Argentina and Bolivia.
